Tuition Policy

Tuition at School of Portland Youth Ballet can be paid for the whole term or divided into 5 equal payments per term (fall and spring).  Classes that are missed can be made up in an equal or lower level class.  There are no refunds or prorating of tuition.

Class Descriptions


(Please note: all ages are approximate)

KINDER BALLET geared to the 4 year old with creative movement and beginning orientation to basic ballet concepts.  Coordination, rhythm and grace are developed at this age.  Class is 45 minutes long.


PRE-BALLET  geared to 5 and 6 year olds with emphasis on more structured ballet concepts, introducing terminology, correct placement and introduction to simple barre exercises.  Center work is geared toward basic movement principles in ballet and also creative movement. Class is 45 minutes long.

BEGINNING BALLET

Level 1 - Age 6
Barre work and center exercises expanded from pre-ballet basics.  Class is one hour.

Level 2 - Age 7-8
Ballet technique expanded from concepts learned in Level 1.  Class is one hour and meets once a week.

INTERMEDIATE BALLET


Level 3A - Age 8-9

Ballet Technique expanded from concepts learned in Level 2.  Class is 1 hour long with more barre and center work covered.   Level 3A meets 2 times a week.

Level 3B - Age 9

Ballet Technique expanded from concepts learned in Level 3A.  Class is 1 hour and 15 minutes long with more center work covered.   Level 3B meets 2 times a week.

Level 4P (pre-pointe) - Age 10-12


Ballet technique includes pre-pointe.  Class is 1 ½ hours and meets 3 times a week, and includes one jazz class. Students at this level are eligible to be members of the junior company of PYB. 

ADVANCED BALLET

 
Level 5 - Age 12-14

Ballet technique including pointe, modern dance and jazz.  Classes including pointe are 2 hours long.   Ballet 5 meets 4 times a week.  Students at this level are eligible to be members of the apprentice company of PYB. 


 
Level 6 - Age 15 and Up

This is a pre-professional level and geared toward the student who desires serious study and is interested in a professional career in ballet.  The level includes ballet technique, pointe, variations, pas de deux, modern dance and jazz.  Level 6 dancers are also invited to be senior members of PYB and perform throughout the year. 


MODERN/JAZZ

Intermediate and Advanced Modern and Jazz classes are offered for ages 10 and up.
